Wow, what an end to the first season of the CSL Cup, truly exciting racing in both races and two deserving champions at the end.

Week end started on a low point really, Geoff Steel wasn’t able to repair his car from the incident at Croft when Jamie Martin side swiped him out at Sunny Out and John Harrison who was battling Darren Humphrey in the standard class has sold his car to a new driver for next season who sadly couldn’t make the final round this year so that left us with a thinner grid than we’d have liked for the last race. The good news was that Duncan White had done some further work on his car with more power and less weight so moved up into the modified class for only his second ever race weekend.

So, another weekend, another fantastic couple of CSL Cup races. As Saturday morning approached, eyes fell on the returning car #22 of Geoff Steel with many predicting him to be setting the pace. We also finally welcomed Duncan White to the grid in his standard class M3 entrant, and David Briault – who replaced Nick Foster in the Thorney Motorsport car with Foster being out of action.

Well, how about that for a varied race weekend. Having had a pretty awful week of weather we might have expected at least some sunshine. The weekend’s weather was changeable to say the least. A 20 minute period of sunshine would’ve changed to heavy showers within seconds, leaving tyre choice to the very very last minute.

Donington 2009 - Rounds 5 & 6

So, the forecast for the whole weekend was miserable. Reports of torrential rain, with sunny spells weren’t the best weather predictions to heighten expectations! We had been expecting a 10-car grid for Donington. However, Duncan White’s efforts of 3am finishes just weren’t enough to get him to the grid in time. I am sure we will all be delighted to see him slot in the Standard Class at Castle Combe in a couple of weeks time. We may also be welcoming Bexley Motor Works in their Modified Class car if it can be ready in time. Another slight change to the Donington line up was the change of class to the Number 21 (& 31) car of Steward / Foster. They requested the rear wing & front aero package to match that of a Modified Class car so were moved up to Modified Class.

Rounds 3 & 4 in the new CSL Cup series brought some new faces, the new CSL Cup drivers lounge, and some exciting racing for the crowds. We had been expecting three more cars to enter for Brands, however, late in the week two were still unfinished. We are however, very pleased to welcome Steve Gill to the modified class in his CSL.
